How to Get Better at Burpees for CrossFit® (Plus Common Mistakes!)

The question everyone wants to know - how do I get better at burpees?? There's a few answers to this, which I'll go over in the video but we're going to look at 3 main topics;
1. Technique and Skill
2. Pacing
3. Scaling!
So by the end of the video you should know what's holding you back in burpee workouts. Is it your technique, do you go out too hot at the beginning or are you simply not quite ready to be Rx'ing burpees yet? For some, it can be a really challenging movement, and scaling it back will allow you to get the same stimulus from the workout as others in the class.

I always unconsciously do this, I always thought it was just a weird technique I had 😅
This video was awesome! I am rather new to CF and double unders are tough for me. I can get one, but rarely more. I realize now that I tense up and go way to fast when it is time to switch from single to double (life the first guy you worked with). I cannot wait to grab my jumprope and put this into practice!

I’ve been doing strict burpees
As "llados" says: jumping at final of burpees makes you a "mileurista" LOL
The strict burpee as the #1 "mistake." That's pretty hilarious.

Any tips on plopping to the ground ? I tend to always do a negative. Idk y. lol. Also my elbows start flaring outwards on the down
Pacing
I think one of the issues for me is the flexibility. I usually do step down, step up. But on the step up I can't get my feet up far enough. So, I still end up doing an extra push with my arms to roll back on to my feet solidly before standing and jumping.

How have I never thought about this before? Oh yeah, I did 😆 my trainers remind me every day of every week. This is basic $h!t brother. I watch you for different takes and or approaches to the exercises. At the end of the day it comes down to mobility and flexibility. So perhaps do a video on a how to gain more mobility and flexibility in order to be able to point the elbow like that and rest the bar on the shoulders?

Is a Crossfit HIIT workout class without any barbell movements good to do? If so, how many times per week?

The towel trick does not prevent you from bending your knees.
As for gear, I would recommend a jump rope as the first item to pickup. While most every Box has them available, having your own allows you to use the same jump rope, properly sized, every time, which is incredibly important as you try to get better at them and especially learning double unders.😢
